code of conduct

this is a living & moving document, intended to reflect what we owe to each other: what we need & want to have a space that allows for creativity, care, justice, respectful discussion & challenge, safety, & support. this is not a document that can or will account for everything, but it is a commitment to take care with/of each other, & to address harm directly, whether or not that harm is explicitly stated here.

we hope to make transformative work, & make that work in a transformative way. we believe that how we make art is more important than what we make! we will hold each other & ourselves to foregrounding collective liberation—antiracism, antifascism, feminism, queer & trans liberation, disability justice, anticapitalism, abolition—both as analysis & as practice. we believe that these commitments form the ways in which we make relationships with and take care of each other.

we will put safety first. we will address harm as a community.

we will practice nonviolence. we will not tolerate violence in any form. this includes racism, antiblackness, transphobia, sexism, physical violence, verbal abuse, sexual violence, harassment, bullying, and other forms of interpersonal violence.

we will approach our art from a place of curiosity & creativity. we will assume that everyone in the room has something to contribute. we will care about each other’s experiences. we will ask questions.

we will support each other through difficult work. this might include accessibility changes, content warnings, fight/intimacy choreography, closed/open rehearsal rooms, time to prepare, & opportunities to step away when needed. we will ask questions about what others might need to create safely, & we will speak up when our needs are not being met.

we will address conflict or have difficult conversations at times when everyone is focused, rested, and fed. we will treat people as the experts on their own experiences. we will address breaks in trust or safety in practices grounded in transformative justice.
